When should I bring my child for their first orthodontic consultation?

The British Orthodontics Society (BOS) recommends all children have an early consultation with an orthodontist between the ages of 7 and 11. This is a time when their jaws are still malleable, making it easier to assess potential issues and guide their teeth into position if need be.

We won’t necessarily recommend treatment start straight away but it does give us a chance to identify orthodontic issues and plan for them, thus saving you – and your child – time, money and potentially invasive orthodontic treatment in the long term.

What is Beam Future Smiles: Junior+?

Starting the treatment early can make a massive difference to the results and speed of treatment in growing patients (usually 7-11 years old).

With Beam Junior+ Private service we spot problems much earlier, as they are arising, and correct them rather than allow them to distort the eruption of the adult teeth.

We can offer early interceptive Private treatment where it’s needed and a full range of treatment options including Invisalign for kids.

Braces on the NHS

Some kids can be eligible for orthodontic treatment on the NHS if their teeth are bad enough such as severe crowding, buried and impacted teeth, or severely protruding teeth. The NHS regulations only allow treatment for dental health needs, not simply for cosmetic reasons.

The Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) is used by the NHS to determine if a case is severe enough for funding. A long wait on an NHS waiting list for assessment can often still turn out to be too mild for NHS funding and end up seeking our help with Beam Future Smiles: Junior+ treatments.

To avoid disappointment and delay contact us now to book an assessment appointment and discover what we can do to fix your kid’s orthodontic problems giving them an awesome, confident smile.
