Imagine growing up with beautiful teeth that make you want to smile and show them off. Children who are proud of their appearance will grow up to be confident, self-assured adults. We have seen shy, timid youngsters blossom and come out of their shell after their brace treatment at Beam Orthodontics. Their treatment can be truly transformational!
The British Orthodontics Society (BOS) recommends all children have an early consultation with an orthodontist between the ages of 7 and 11. This is a time when children have a combination of both baby and adult teeth. It’s also a time when the jaws are still malleable, making it easier to guide teeth into position if need be.
At Beam Orthodontics, when we conduct an early consultation, we are looking for signs of potential orthodontic problems that may affect your child in the future. We won’t necessarily recommend treatment start straight away but it does give us a chance to identify these issues and plan for them, thus saving you – and your child – time, money and potentially invasive orthodontic treatment in the long term.

Children under the age of 18 could be eligible for orthodontic treatment on the NHS. At Beam Orthodontics, we have an excellent relationship with dentists along the East coast of Scotland who refer their patients to us for an NHS Orthodontic Assessment. The NHS no longer pays for all orthodontic treatment and due to changes in government funding only certain young people are eligible for braces on the NHS.
The guidelines specify that braces can only be fitted for dental health needs, not simply cosmetic reasons. Young people with severe crowding, protruding or buried teeth may be eligible. The Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) is used to quantify the need in each case and establish the cases severe enough for NHS funding. There may also be a waiting list for NHS treatment.
If your child is not eligible for braces on the NHS, don’t despair. Our Essentials Range offers an affordable way of contributing to your child’s future success.
If you have been told the NHS will not fund orthodontic treatment for your child, our Essentials Range could allow your child to enjoy a perfect smile at a price that will make you happy too.
Our Essentials Range provides all the fundamental treatment choices available on the NHS. These include fixed metal braces, removable braces and functional appliances. Appointments can be made during our NHS clinics, which take place from Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 3.45pm.
We also provide an Essentials Plus Range, which allows you to add extras to the Essential Range to suit your needs. These extras include:
We offer a number of different payment options, including interest-free finance, to help your budget and keep this treatment affordable. Please see our fees and finance page for more details.
